Some of the biggest gigs, on the biggest stages in front of the biggest crowds have been carried by the tones of the tiny but mighty Fender Princeton. Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers said - if he were to only play one amp for the rest of his career, a Fender Princeton would be it.
This is an original vintage silver face Fender Princeton from 1977 - as dated by the pot codes in the chassis. This compact but “plenty loud” amp is structurally mostly original with a few welcome exceptions, making it a reliable road warrior or studio amp.
In 2021 this Princeton Reverb underwent “generational service” by Andrew Z of Tone Zone in Canberra. Typically for older vintage amps, this type of service is a comprehensive overhaul that targets failing capacitors, tolerance issues, potential safety concerns and overall reliability. The original blue Ajax coupling caps are in place, otherwise the amp has been fully recapped, (including the multi can capacitor), a comprehensive resoldering to eliminate potential dry joints and replacement tubes. The 10” speaker has no label but is possibly an older Celestion. This amp has been converted to 240 volt power with a long Australian power lead (originally a USA amp). There is wear on the bottom corners of the amp, exposing areas of particle board, otherwise this amp is structurally and electrically sound.
Equipped with Mullard and Phillips tubes, this Princeton Reverb has a rich, textured crunch tone when turned up loud. Plenty of sag and harmonic content to generate pleasing harmonic feedback. The speaker also has audible breakup at louder volumes, contributing a higher frequency, more present grit to the tone. The reverb is subtle, as is the tremolo. This amp comes with a reissue 2 button foot switch.
This is a recently serviced, classic Fender with that great vintage Fender tone.
