Fender Vibrolux Reverb Amp - Black Tolex - 1965
Fender Vibrolux Reverb Amp - Black Tolex - 1965
Considered by many to be the greatest amp made by Fender, the original blackface Fender Vibrolux is a relatively small yet very loud and efficient 35-watt, 2x10 combo that has been featured on more performances and recordings than anyone could count.
This amp has been used extensively (as great-sounding amps tend to be) and has a few battle scars and modifications. The speakers are a pair of Jensen C10Qs, reissues from 1999. At some stage, a master volume was installed and later removed. A replacement blackface panel has been added to cover the hole from this modification. This amp retains its original blue blocking capacitors; however, some filter caps have been replaced at some point. Photos of the internals can be arranged upon request from serious customers.
This Vibrolux is an original Australian-delivered amp and has the original 240V transformer. There is a low-level hum (approximately 1/4 the volume of single-coil hum), possibly attributed to the output transformer. The footswitch is a new replacement reissue. Six of the nine control knobs on the amp are original, with three being reproductions. Two of the original knobs are included but have damaged grub screw threads. Additionally, nine replacement control knobs come with this amp.
This amp has been a road warrior and comes with a robust road case with caster wheels. It also has a more recent padded cover, practical for most gigging applications. At 20 kilos, this amp is relatively light and portable, yet it still has the grunt to handle most gigging scenarios.
The tones from this amp are what many guitarists spend their lives searching for. This Vibrolux projects a clear and full tone with surprising efficiency and great projection in the mix. The two Jensen C10Q speakers provide all the highs, mids, and lows you want, without muddiness or harshness. At 35 watts, this amp offers plenty of headroom for most live scenarios and takes pedals exceptionally well. When pushed into overdrive, the sound is warm, with enough compression to make single notes really sing. It's a great amp for blues, rock, country, and jazz, representing the epitome of the classic Fender sound.
