Andy Taylor is a craftsman from Sydney’s Northern Beaches. In his workshop he has turned out a number of beautiful and unique instruments that play, sound and look fantastic. This latest offering, new to the market is his 2016 ATC “Gold Bastard”. 

This attractive instrument is a hardtail, single coil, strat inspired design. The all nitro finish sports black back and sides, and attractive gold top (redone by Andy in 2025), showcasing its unique top contours. Clear nitro on the neck shows off a beautiful quilted maple neck and rosewood fretboard. 

This is a relatively light instrument, with very comfortable balanced feel. 2 degree neck angle gives a nice, subtle back sweep. The neck on this guitar is straight and is currently set up with 10-46 gauge strings with a nice, ultra low 1.6mm action at the 12th fret. 

The guitar sports 3 Mark Davis Classic Strat Alnico 5 pickups. These are wound with formvar wire. This durable, thermoplastic resin coated wire is what was used by Fender through the 1950s and early 60s and plays a significant part in that classic “pre CBS” Fender tone. These pickups are configured with a Fender style 5 way pickup selector. 

The neck is wide and slim, with a medium/wide nut width of 42.5mm, tapering out to 52.3mm at the 12th fret. 

Weighing just 3.33kg, this Andy Taylor Custom is a one off, light weight, killer sounding and fab looking instrument.
