Fender 1972 Tele Thinline "TN-72" - Natural Finish - 1996
Fender 1972 Tele Thinline "TN-72" - Natural Finish - 1996
This guitar is lightweight with good acoustic resonance thanks to its chambered ash body. The neck is a comfortable medium C profile with subtly rolled edges and a 7 1/4" fretboard radius. The action is a very low 1.5mm at the 12th fret. Combine that with a featherweight 2.77kgs/6.1lbs and you'll find this is one easy easy to handle machine.
The clear finish has aged subtly on this guitar, giving it a slightly darker tint as evidenced by tan lines when the scratch plate is removed. There is no evidence of checking or peeling. Again, this guitar has had minimal use over the years. The only clear evidence of modification is one replacement string ferrule - loosely held in on the high E string at the back of the body. This does not effect performance and would easily be swapped out with the appropriate Fender ferrule. The pickup selector switch tip has also been replaced at some stage.
It is well known that the craftsmen in Japan were in a large part responsible for raising the bar for Fender by making their own iterations of comparable quality to the pre CBS guitars from before 1966. Fender USA made the wise decision to join forces with the makers in Japan. These Japanese Fenders of the 80s and 90s are of exceptional quality and are becoming quite collectable. This Tele Thinline is representative of that quality. This guitar comes with a replacement Fender tweed hard shell case with crushed gold inlay - a nice addition to a very clean "72 reissue Telecaster Thinline.

It's always a bit of a gamble buying a guitar online - especially when it's in another country - but Jordan, at Fretboard Jungle, made this really easy. From the comprehensive description in the listing, to the cool little video of him playing the guitar (clean sound only, which is the way I like it), to his willingness to negotiate and clear, timely communication, to the speed with which he got this to me, the whole process was about as easy and painless as it gets.
The guitar is as beautiful to play as it is to look at. I've only had it 2 days, and I already know it's a true keeper. I bought the guitar on a Thursday. It left Sydney on Friday, and it was delivered to me in New Zealand on Monday morning. I've had items ordered locally in NZ that have taken longer to get to me.
Nice one, Jordan. Keep up the good work!
