This is an eye catching instrument. A 2007 Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass in striking metallic dolphin grey. Along with its chrome appointments and off white binding, this bass is sure to grab the attention of any low end aficionado.
The Aerodyne Jazz Bass was introduced by Fender in 2003. Unique structural features of the Aerodyne Jazz Bass are a 39" radiused basswood body and a P/J style pickup configuration. This means the Aerodyne has a Fender Precision style split single coil in the neck position and a Fender Jazz Bass style pickup in the bridge position - considered by many as a "best of both worlds" type of configuration.
At 8.5k ohms, the neck pickup gives a meaty classic Fender P Bass tone and sounds great all by itself. At 5.22K ohms, the bridge adds a clear and snappy element to the tone, giving this bass wide tonal versatility with minimal electronics. The absence of a pickup selector may be a welcome design feature to many bassists - utilizing the two independent volume knobs to blend and finesse ones desired tone.
The condition of this bass is excellent. This one owner instrument has lived most of its life in its case and has almost no signs of wear. There is light tarnish on the chrome tuning pegs, knobs and control plate, but the finish itself is almost perfect. The body has two slight paint cracks either side of the neck pocket, as well as a couple of superficial dents on the body, otherwise it is in excellent condition.
The neck has slight relief and a 2.7mm action at the E string 12th fret. The medium C feels quite slim in hand and the 7.25" neck radius gives this bass that classic Fender feel.
This is a smart looking, comfortable, easy to play and versatile bass at an affordable price point. What more could you ask for?
