Gibson L5 Tailpiece for Archtop Guitar - Gold - 1970s/1980s
Gibson L5 Tailpiece for Archtop Guitar - Gold - 1970s/1980s
Here is a genuine Gibson tailpiece from a 1970s or early 1980s Gibson L5 archtop hollow body guitar. This one is a more rare design as it does not feature the varitone adjustment system or "top crusher" - which was essentially a small brass bar that, when tightened, pressed down on the top of the guitar, altering the tone somewhat. Through 1971 to approximately 1984 Gibson L5s were typically shipped with this tailpiece, which did not have the varitone adjustment and thus had no hole below the "L5" engraving.
This piece is in very good condition and retains most of its gold plating. The gold plating is rubbed off around the bend at the base of the tailpiece, which would be due to the guitar resting face forward with this section of the tailpiece sitting on the carpet. There are no cracks or issues with this tailpiece and was recently taken off a fully functional Gibson L5.
