The Gibson Melody Maker started out in the late 1950s. It was the most stripped back version of the Les Paul that Gibson made, having fewer appointments than the Les Paul Junior. There have been a number of revisions of the Melody Maker over the decades, but the 2003 model has some features which make it one of the more desirable contemporary versions. 

Most Melody Makers feature a Strat like single coil pickup in the bridge position, some later models feature a single humbucker, but this one, much like the original Les Paul Jr, features a P90 pickup. 

The majority of Melody Maker iterations feature a wrap around bridge, with a more or less fixed intonation - making the tuning of the guitar up the neck somewhat of an approximation. This features a Gibson adjustamatic bridge, so intonation can be dialed in. 

This is a very original instrument. This 2003 model never came with a pick guard and thus there are no screw holes in the top. The pickups, controls, frets and hardware are all original and work well. The medium C profile is comfortable and not too chunky. The tone has all the spank and snarl one might expect from a p90 equipped slap of solid mahogany. 

This guitar has been played plenty in its 21 year life. There is some visible fret wear around the first 5 frets. There is buckle rash on the back of the instrument and strumming wear on the front of the body. The neck is straight, with plenty of adjustment available in the truss rod. The action is a low 1.7mm at the 12th fret

This is a dead simple, solid, rock and roll machine that does everything it says on the tin.
